There are many different areas you can work on, but remember if you have to explain something about yourself that isn’t fitting, then you’re doing something wrong. Let’s focus on something that highlights your good qualities. Your sense of fashion is very important. However, before we discuss fashion, I want to clarify that this is not about buying expensive clothes.
Having a good sense of fashion is not about the cost of your clothing; it’s about how you wear them. You might resist wearing certain clothes because they’re uncomfortable or whatever, but you are judged heavily based on your appearance. This is why, for example, you cannot show up to a job interview with a plastic bag or in ill-fitting or inappropriate clothing. You need to understand the environment you’re in and represent yourself well.
The best advice is to learn how to mix and match clothes. Wearing clean clothes is essential, and you don’t have to spend a lot of money. Buying expensive clothes is not always smart. Shop for clothes that look good on you rather than buying impulsively.
Wear seasonal clothes—shorts and a T-shirt in summer, jeans or pants in winter, and have a raincoat for the rainy season. Wearing clothes that are clean and in colors and styles that match each other is far more important than buying overpriced shirts.
You can often get away with non-brand clothes for items like underwear, pants, and shirts. However, for some items, you might need to buy brand names, not because of the name itself, but because it’s difficult to find quality non-brand alternatives. For example, shoes and hats are things where it might be better to invest in high-end brands. If you’re a man, clean shoes can significantly impact how others perceive your cleanliness.
Females often judge cleanliness based on your shoes because they’re the part of your outfit that people notice most. Remember to learn combinations of clothes that fit you and suit the season. Some of this information is repeated in this article because it is very important. I’ve met many people who are not happy with themselves because of their appearance. This is an area you need to work on—wear good clothes and care about your sense of fashion.
The best recommendation I can give is to avoid bragging about how good you are. Just focus on looking good. You will be noticed and appreciated for wearing clean clothes. There should be no excuse for having bad body odor, as this can make you very unlikable very quickly.
I’ve seen many men who don’t care about their appearance and just grab whatever they can to fit in. You need to go beyond that and care more about what you wear. Having multiple pants and shirts allows for various combinations, but remember to choose them based on the season and learn color combinations. For example, avoid wearing an extremely bright yellow jacket with an equally bright red item.
This article does not tell you exactly what to wear but is provides a basic foundation. Whether you think it’s important or not, remember that you are judged on everything—your clothes, the way you walk, your body, etc. While it sounds good to say “Don’t judge someone,” the reality is that we are judged on nearly everything we do. If you’re waiting for someone else to tell you this, you haven’t fully grasped how life works. People usually absorb and note what they see and then ignore you if it doesn’t meet their standards. This is the situation you want to avoid.
