We all have or had problems where we needed the outside world to help us out. Understand that although this may be hard to accept, people will give you advice based on their best abilities, or even limited abilities, and sometimes, unintentionally, their advice might mislead you or cause distractions in your life.
For the sake of this topic, we will focus on good people, family, and friends around you who you ask for advice or who often offer you advice. You may have noticed that their advice is not aligned with your life, and if you apply it, it may not work out to your benefit. This is why it is important to see that good people can have good intentions but often give bad advice.
Let’s take Joe as an example. Joe is not happy and doesn’t want to get married; he has other plans. All his friends around him are or have gotten married, and most of them have kids, houses, cars, and good jobs. Joe feels left out, and all his friends and parents suggest to Joe that he should get married. They may even try to set him up with someone, regardless of understanding what Joe truly wants.
Joe is stuck with two choices. If Joe does what his parents and friends want by getting married as soon as possible, he may end up being miserable, angry, etc. If he stays single and pursues his own goals, he may disappoint his parents and potentially lose all his friends.
These people aren’t against Joe, but their advice may work for 90% of the people they know but not for Joe.
This is just an example and does not mean this article is making a suggestion about being married or whether you should get married or not. This article is a chapter to help you understand that not everyone may see your goals. If you know your final goal deep down, only a few selective people may be able to give you the right advice.
The best advice often comes from those who have faced the most suffering and problems. If you encounter bad advice, don’t take it personally. Smile, say okay, and do whatever you want to do as long as you understand and see your final goal as clear as daylight. If you want advice, make sure you ask someone capable of helping you with a broad vision.
